Welcome to the Society of Humans
We are only one race. The human race. Why then do we discriminate against each other versus loving each other? Is it nature? Yes. Is it right? No. Why do we divide ourselves into these different life structures, when we are the same? Is it because we are afraid? Probably. Do we have reason to fear? Yes, but not because of their skin color. Martin Luther King Jr. Realized this when he cried out to all of us for harmony and equality between “sons of former slaves and sons of former slave owners.” And still, in the name of this great man, we cry out our differences as races. But we are one race.
Why must history repeat itself? We are taught history in order to learn from it, but we are lapsing back into that wretched veil of racial difference. Do we not hear the cries of our past? The tears that are our present? The screams in our near future? Why?
I ponder this constantly and all that I get in response is my own feelings of sadness and scorn. Who else will hear me, a lowly 16 year old, white girl? Yes I am white. Discriminated against, for a past I had no partaking in. And still I ask why? Why black museum's? Why white museums? Why Chinese-American festivals? Why cultural festivals? Are we not Human? Do we not belong with other homosapians?
Why can we not live the dream that Martin Luther King Jr. and other reformers see? Why can we not be one? Why must we burden ourselves with this hatred meant to tear us down? Why?
